A Brief History

The Friends of Roundhay Park ( FoRP ) was started in 1996.

Ten years ago We found the Park was in a poor state and we believed that something needed to be done. And so The Friends of Roundhay Park was formed.

A number of our local residents realised that it was no longer any good just Grumbling and Complaining.

It was time to start to do something. A notice was displayed in the local Post Office announcing a Public Meeting and over 70 people turned up.

A Committee was formed, A constitution was written and our Objectives defined;

1. To work for the enhancement, maintenance and Use of Roundhay Park
2. To protect the natural Beauty and help improve the existing facilities and the resources of the Park.
3. To increase Public Awareness in proposed alterations to the Park and its environs.
4 To provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for the recreation and leisure time occupation with the objects of improving the conditions of life for all the inhabitants of Leeds.

We currently have over 400 members.

In May 2003 we became a registered Charity 1097692

Mrs. Marjorie Ziff is our President.
